Oakville's Kinsmen hosted a charity barbecue on site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tim Horton's coffee and fresh popcorn was served free from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by ReStore staff and volunteers. Habitat's ReStore sells quality used and surplus building materials and household products at a fraction of retail prices. These materials are donated by contractors with excess supplies, from demolition crews salvaging reusable materials, and from the general public. For example, homeowners renovating kitchens can arrange for ReStore volunteers to remove their existing acceptable cabinets and appliances for free and receive a tax receipt for the value paid for the item. This helps the environment by diverting thousands of tons of usable materials away from landfills.
