16 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, August 5, 2010 Record ride in Terra Cotta The sixth-annual Le Tour de Terra Cotta turned out to be the biggest so far with 425 cyclists registered for the various races on Monday and several hundred spectators were on hand for the event as well. Spokesperson Donna Cragg said that registration was up 82 per cent compared to the 2009 and the field included 84-year-old Clyde Jenkins of Orangeville, who was runner-up in the men's 70+ division behind Georgetown's Norm Hohban. Local resident Heather Sprengler won the women's title with a time of 2:32:20 in the feature 108-km Classic Tour event sponsored by Dimpflmeier Bakery, while Jamie Smith of Toronto was first to cross the finish line among the men in 2:31:46. Shannon Hammer of Georgetown placed ninth overall and was third for the men's 30-39 age group in the 27-km adult short course race, won by Brampton's Nathalie Bosse. North Halton is hosting the three-day event that features several locally based golfers, including Mary-Ann Hayward, the Royal Canadian Golf Association Hall of Fame member who is competing at the senior level for the first time.
