20 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, August 12, 2010 Hunter is sniffing around for a new family Hunter is nothing but a hound dog...and a beautiful one at that. He is a large tricolour, young male hound, approximately two years old, 63 lbs, excited to see you which belies his medium energy, is leash trained but can be a "I'll walk you dog" if there are too many exciting scents to sniff at. The first thing you notice is that Hunter is indeed incredibly handsome, wonderful markings and is exudes a zest for life when exercising outside. Hunter came to us from another rescue, has been in foster care for too long and is now with UCHS. Hunter, like all hounds, is a vocal boy which must be taken into consideration when adopting and should be adopted to adult families or ones with children that are over 10 due to his size and hound needs. Hunter may be timid at first while sizing you up but quickly comes around if you are quiet and gentle in your approach. He has his basics, loved his crate in his foster home, good with other dogs (inclined to chase cats). A new home with a companion animal might suit him superbly as he is much calmer and quieter with another dog and while living in foster he ran and played with his foster siblings. Hounds are your poster dog for happy affection. This breed is eager to please, loving, and intelligent. We feel that with patience and a soft hand, Hunter will be an awesome addition to any family. He does need a secure fenced yard, as hounds follow their noses and can get lost before realizing they're missing a family. He will always need to be on leash when not in a secured area for the same reasons. Hounds don't recall when there JAKE YOU AND YOUR PET All Stories By JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer HUNTER is something more interesting to smell or look at or chase. This breed loves to hang around the house, lounge on the couch and snooze by their humans. No apartments or townhouses for Hunter. In summary, Hunter would do best as a second dog, as he seems to need constant companionship. He gets very depressed when alone and the "cut and thrust" of Shelter life is beginning to take its toll. Hunter is longing for a new family and hopes you will come soon. Call 519-833-2287 or email adoptions@uppercredit. com. Can someone adopt me please? How are we going to get Muskoka adopted? The last of the three dumped youngsters (arrived Feb. 2009), Muskoka is still a young lady of delicate stature and is sadly still awaiting adoption....how can we help this sweet girl find a home? Muskoka is shy and will hide in the multiple cat room if it is too busy but ask for her by name and you will be welcomed and she enjoys being gently petted. Muskoka's personality, just like that wonderful part of Ontario, reflects tranquility, quiet times and relaxation. You can't rush Muskoka; she loves a quiet approach. A new family would have to be patient while Muskoka gets used to her new surroundings, be prepared to furnish her with plenty of safe hiding places and let her come out of her shell, build her confidence at her own pace. Muskoka will totally unfurl and blossom when she is comfortable Jake takes the cake! Jake is a refreshing blast of life and is a relative newcomer to the Shelter but has made his presence known in a very good way. He is a beagle cross, a youthful six-year-old dressed in an interesting brown coat with lovely brindle markings and weighs in at 48 lbs. Jake presents as a happy boy, obviously had a good home and was only surrendered because the family felt that due to work circumstances changes he was alone 10-11 hours a day. They knew this was not fair to Jake and loved him enough to bring him to UCHS to give him a chance at a better life with a family that could give him more companionship. Jake is housebroken, good with children, cats, other dogs, and loves car rides. He has his basic commands, is really pleasant to walk, has medium energy and a super personality. Seldom do we have a dog with so many pluses...he certainly is a multitasking boy, plays a mean game of frisbee, soccer and retrieving, but loves to just hang out and relax! Jake is definitely an "all round guy", MUSKOKA with you, you will get leg rubs and she loves curling up on the lap of known people. Once confidence is restored Muskoka can be playful and is good with quiet other cats. A gentle older companion cat might be just the recipe for success or life as an only would also suit her. Muskoka has been with us far too long... there must be someone out there who can give her a home. Everyone is crossing their fingers that this third "alert" of her presence at the Shelter will do the trick. Call 519-833-2287 or email adoptions@uppercredit.com will take what is thrown at him-- could be a walk, sports of all kinds, or just hanging out with his pack. Jake enjoys lazy evening watching TV and will be contented lying by your side. Jake is a wonderful even tempered, intelligent boy just waiting for you! Call the Shelter at 519-833-2287 or e-mail adoptions@uppercredit.com to meet Jake and be impressed! Another happy customer . . . Tom Allen muttleycrew.ca 905-299-1489 · Behaviour Specialists · Basic Training · Boarding and Daycare · Walking and more . . . Tom: thank you, thank you, thank you. The differene in Bruno is amazing. In only one session he has been miraculously changed from a huge dog that was uncontrollable and aloof. Now, he is my most affectionate. I am able to walk him, he sits and downs when asked, he can't wait to cuddle with me. I even was able to take food from his mouth when he picked up some chicken bones. If you told me that he would change that much after one training session, i would have laughed you out of our house. But he has changed. He's HAPPY!!! His being happy has made me so happy. He is already respecting me as his "pack leader" and that has made a huge difference in our relationship. many thanks again. i can't wait till our next session!! i am recommending you to all the people who buy puppies from me. I want you to help the new owners have a wonderful and loving dog like you've made Bruno. Thank You!!
