The study will examine the following: · The land use policy and regulatory approach that should be adopted by the Town for lands that are the site of existing schools within urban and rural areas and lands that have been identified by the school boards as being potentially necessary in the future; and · The appropriate land use planning process to be adopted when the whole or part of a school site is to be declared surplus. The Town of Halton Hills retained Meridian Planning Consultants Inc. to prepare the School Sites Land Use Planning Study which is being undertaken through a five phase planning process as follows: Phase 1: Background Analysis and Issue Identification Phase 2: School Site Policy and Regulatory Options Phase 3: Preferred Policy and Regulatory Alternative Phase 4: Initial Policy Formulation Phase 5: Final Policy and Regulatory Formulation Meridian Planning Consultants have prepared a School Sites Background, Issues and Options Paper (the key deliverable for Phases 1 and 2), which provides pertinent information related to Provincial, Regional and Town policies and regulations, summarizes land use approaches used in other municipalities, discusses the relationship between school sites and parks and recreation, provides five possible land use options for further discussion, and outlines potential recommendations for legislation and policy changes by the Town, Region, Province and School Boards.
