Then, an extra-inning loss to Brampton Sunday morning in the double-knockout tourney put the Eagles into the final with their rivals, the North Mississauga Bengals. Georgetown's senior rookies had defeated the Bengals for the Central Ontario championship last month and during the preliminary round at the provincials, but North Mississauga prevailed in the final 11-2. By EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer The Acton Soccer Club will be represented for the first time in a championship game of the Ontario Cup soccer competition this weekend when the Acton Classics take on the Rexdale United Elites in Vaughan. Competing in the Ontario Soccer Association's Women's Classics Division, the Acton side earned a trip to the finals in its first year together with a shootout victory over Oak Ridges in the semifinals late last month at Birchmount Stadium in Scarborough. The Classics will now take on defending-champion Rexdale for the Ontario Cup title this Saturday at the Soccer Centre in Vaughan beginning at 8 p.m. Although just one player on the Classics, Christina Carere, is an Acton resident, the team decided on Leathertown as its home base due to its central location and has been surprised by the support received thus far. They practised in Acton Tuesday evening in preparation for the big match. "I know that the Acton Soccer Club is excited and the word has apparently got out around town, so hopefully we'll get some youth teams to come over for the game to cheer us on," said captain Jennifer Granger of Waterloo, who is soccer development co-ordinator in the south-central Ontario region for the OSA. "Rexdale is a very experienced and well-organized team and it will be a tough game for us." In the shootout win over Oak Ridges, goalkeeper Kim Lee made two clutch saves while teammates Tracey Murphy, Katharine Thayer and Sheri Kralj found the back of the net to give the Classics a 3-2 triumph.
