Sales and Agents Help Wanted Sales and Agents Help Wanted Sales and Agents Help Wanted Sales and Agents Help Wanted Sales and Agents Help Wanted Sales and Agents Help Wanted DEATHS PORTER, Graham Peacefully on September 15th, 2010 at Shelburne in his 85th year. Formerly of St. John's, Newfoundland, long-time resident of Georgetown and more recently Acton. Predeceased by his beloved wife Millie (December 2009) and their son Glenn (1983) and brother John. Dear father to Doreen (Ernie) Sheppard of Caledon, Marilyn (Mike) of Wasaga Beach and Graham of Orangeville. Cherished Poppy to his loving grandchildren Michelle, Terry, Matthew, Melanie, Amanda, Glennie and Charlotte and his 5 Great grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Lou of St. John's Newfoundland and his sister Violet of Happy Valley, Labrador. Graham left St. John's in 1950 leaving behind his dear Millie and soon to be born daughter Doreen, hoping to find work and make a better life for his family. Somehow he ended up in Georgetown. He was the first one to settle here from Newfoundland and the rest is history for the many "Newfies" that call Georgetown home. Some of the early ones, the late Dick Sutton and Cec Dicks stayed with us until they also had work and were able to send for their families and they remained lifelong friends. Blair and Rita (Kent) Kennedy and their family were also early "settlers" from the Rock and as Millie was from Bell Island where there was no work and most of those that followed were also Bell Islanders. Too many to mention, this group of fun loving, caring people shared their unique culture and warmth with all and have contributed immensely to making Georgetown the great town it is today. We were doubly blessed with having this great extended "family" and also to have been Normandy Blvd. residents and are not surprised to see that many of the children/grandchildren of the original group also call the "Blvd" home. He was a long time employee at Chrysler (previously American Motors) and in the early 60's worked at Standard Products where he began his unwavering dedication to improving worker's rights, benefits, health and safety as a driving force of the UAW. A long time Salvation Army member Graham and Millie were blessed by the care and love of their wonderful friends of the Acton Corp during their later years and our family is eternally thankful for their tireless care giving of our parents. May he rest in peace in the arms of God, pain free and rejoicing in his reunion with his beloved wife Millie and precious son Glenn. Cremation has taken place. Internment service for Graham and Millie to take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown, on Friday, September 24th, 2010 at 11:00 am. NURSE, Harvey Edward March 30th, 1916 - September 15th, 2010 Harvey Nurse, our father, passed away peacefully in the evening of September 15th, 2010, at the Georgetown Hospital. He is survived by his children John and Jim Nurse of Ashgrove, Ontario and Janet (Lawrence) Guimond of Grand Bay-Westfield, New Brunswick; grandchildren Christopher (Beth) Guimond of London, Ontario, Jessica (Greg) Hemmings of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Adam Guimond of Perth, Australia; great-grandchildren Kaiya Hemmings, Lucas, Lochlain and Declan Guimond; nephews Jeff (Kenda) Nurse, Stuart Nurse and Adrienne (Des) Peacock Wilson. Predeceased by his wife Muriel, brother Fred and sister-in-law Zeta. Harvey was a farmer all of his life. He still actively farmed in 2007. Through the years he ran a dairy, herb and mixed farm, then beef followed by full-time crop farming. From the 1930's to the 1950's he was a member of the Norval Rifle Club. He was an expect marksman winning the Canadian National Championships in 1937, with a perfect score. He was on the Dewar Team which consisted of the top 20 marksmen in Canada. He was a charter member of the Ontario Steam and Antique Preservers Association which began in 1960. He was also a charter member of the Allis Chalmer Club. He enjoyed the Steam Era Shows and collecting antiques and rose plants for his garden. He appreciated nature and could always see the beauty in God's creation. He taught us to value the life around us. He always had time to talk to his neighbours and lend a hand. He loved his family very much. The family wishes to thank the staff at Extendicare Halton Hills for their care during the past 3 years. Visitation will be held on Friday September 24th, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the J.S.
