The grand opening events lasted all day -- with the main focus on the official opening ceremony at 11 a.m. The Woodside Branch, located at 1274 Rebecca St., unofficially re-opened its doors just before the holidays after repairs and renovations saw it closed for three months in the fall. The floor was repaired and the washrooms and service desks were made more accessible, according to Emma Murphy, marketing and communications officer, Oakville Public Library. Mayor Rob Burton spoke as part of the official opening ceremony, as did Oakville Public Library acting-CEO Charlotte Meissner. The ceremony also included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and complimentary coffee and cupcakes for patrons. "In terms of what our community can expect from the renovations, the facility at Woodside has become AODA compliant (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) with newer public washrooms and customer service desks," said Murphy. "Our Woodside Branch is home to many of our special services for customers and the special services area in the branch has been relocated to the centre of the building, beside the information desk. This relocation will enable our staff to serve customers better as the special services area houses accessibility equipment such as the CNIB DAISY reader and the Kurzweil Reading Machine." The temporary drop-off/pick-up depot at the Kinoak Arena closed in December and library staff tipped their hat in thanks to the arena. Volunteers and staff at the branch were diligent so the customers of special services, such as the Homebound Delivery Service, experienced as little disruption as possible, said Murphy.
