The 23-year-old University of Ottawa law school student has deferred her studies for a year in order to train and compete full-time with the national squad and recently joined 27 of her teammates in a fundraising calendar titled, We Row: The Women of Canadian Rowing. Photos by Shawn Simpson, SWS Photography 21 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, October 7, 2010 Boycott on Canadian Special Olympics team Special Olympics Canada announced its roster for the Canuck contingent that will compete in the 2011 World Summer Games in Athens, Greece and Acton-area resident Emily Boycott has made the team for a second time. The 27-year-old rhythmic gymnast and member of the Oakville Butterflies' club took home five gold medals from the 2007 Games in China and is one of five Ontarians who have made the 2011 team, with her mom Debbie serving as head coach. Boycott finished second overall at this summer's Canadian championships in London, Ont. in order to qualify for the worlds in Athens, which are expected to draw 7,000 athletes from 185 countries. Submitted photo or `Best' tourney opens Friday Seventy-nine teams are registered for the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association's annual Best of the Best Thanksgiving Hockey Challenge to be held this weekend at arenas in Halton Hills. Games begin Friday morning at the Mold-Masters SportsPlex and Memorial Arena in Georgetown, as well as the Acton Arena. Championship games are set for Monday.
