For Anthony Maan and Michael Patterson of the Halton Window and Door Company, honesty is the best policy. The two pride themselves on not only providing only the highest quality services and products, but also educating their clients about the work they do. The Halton Window and Door Company, which used to be called Bill Patterson Home Improvements, sells and installs residential windows and exterior doors. What sets the Georgetown-based business apart from others is that Anthony and Michael do all of the selling and installing themselves. "We don't hire any subcontractors, so the customer is always dealing with one of the owners of the company," Anthony says. "They know they'll be getting a good job." In addition to sales and installation, Anthony and Michael educate their clients about everything from the installation process to what to look for in a window. Rather than rush the client into making a decision, Anthony and Michael prefer to give their client time to think, do research and make an educated choice. "We want to help people avoid scammers and steer them in the right direction," Anthony says. "We don't want to tear out windows that are only four or five years old because another company didn't do the job right in the first place." SHOPLOCAL SHOP SMART... SHOP HALTON HILLS Cartwheels Gym Centre Patricia Murphy and Jenn Unsworth get to run around and play for a living. The two coaches are the owners and operators of Cartwheels Gym Centre, a recreational gymnastics centre for kids aged one to 12. Since opening in August, the Georgetown gym has had an overwhelming response to its programs and special events. With the help of their coaches-in-training, Jenn and Patricia run classes seven days a week and recently added a special tumbling class for dancers. The gym also offers gymnastics programs for kids with special needs. In addition to the gymnastics classes, Cartwheels hosts parties and events and provides P.A. Day Camps for kids of all ages. The gym also holds a drop-in program twice a week where kids and their caregivers can freely play on the gym's beams, bars, trampoline, floor and play area. Between the two of them, Jenn and Patricia have more than 30 years of experience coaching and running recreational gymnastics programs. 905-877-0177 ANTHONY MAAN & MICHAEL PATTERSON www.haltonwindows.ca Toll Free 1-866-323-9992 PATRICIA MURPHY & JENN UNSWORTH 318 Guelph Street, Georgetown (Indoor Plaza/across from Saputo) 905-702-9904 www.cartwheelsgymcentre.com Reeve & Clarke Antiquarian and Out-of-Print Books Visiting Reeve & Clarke Fine and Rare Books is like taking a trip to the past. The store, which is owned and operated by Brian and Lynn Kennedy, sells a wide array of quality used books, particularly classic literature, travel, history, art and biographies. What started out as a hobby soon became more for the husband and wife team. They had been buying books for 30 years, selling them for 10 years and finally opened their own store - Reeve & Clarke - two years ago. "We've always been avid readers and had a love of books," Brian says. "I particularly like the research, as well as the learning and preserving of history." In addition to books, Reeve & Clarke also sells small antiques and ephemera, which is what Brian and Lynn call old paper items that people tend to throw away, such as calendars, sheet music, posters, letters, maps and pamphlets. It's only appropriate that a business dealing in antiques and rare books is located in a historic building in Glen Williams. The structure dates back to 1847 and was once a general store where Timothy Eaton, the founder of Eaton's department stores, worked in the 1850's. But in the end, it all comes down to the people. "We enjoy the dialogue with our customers," Brian says. "I think we learn as much from them as they do from us." Diana Dental & Four Seasons Dental Dr. Stephen Diana and Dr. Mark Cicci are helping to beautify Halton Hills one smile at a time. The two dentists and business partners own and operate Diana Dental in Georgetown and Four Season Dental in Acton. Both Diana Dental and Four Season Dental provide a wide variety of services for kids and adults of all ages. In addition to these services, Dr. Cicci and Dr. Diana, who have been working together for more than five years, focus on different areas of dentistry. Dr. Cicci, who graduated from the University of Toronto's Faculty of Dentistry in 1991, focuses on restorative, endodontic and oral surgery and spends most of his time at Four Seasons Dental in Acton. Dr. Diana, who graduated from the University of Toronto's Faculty of Dentistry in 1997, has a special interest in implant dentistry and has taught programs about surgical implant placement. He works most often at Diana Dental in Georgetown. Diana Dental also provides asleep dentistry, which is dental work performed while the patient is under anesthesia provided by an in-house medical anesthetist. "Dr. Cicci and I like being a part of the community and making a positive change in people's appearance and general health," says Dr. Diana. DR.
