Pending final approvals and if the weather co-operates, Challenger Motor Freight Co. is tentatively planning to begin moving six massive beer vats from Hamilton Port Authority to the Molson Coors Brewery near Toronto Airport Friday (Dec. 17) at 9 p.m. A company spokesperson told The Independent & Free Press Wednesday the decision will be finalized this morning (Thursday). If the move occurs, drivers could face some delays on Halton roads in this area Saturday from about 9 p.m. through 6 a.m. Sunday. The transport of the six oversize tanks-- 150 ft. in length x 24 ft. wide x 25 ft. high-- will be one of the largest moves on Ontario roads. Each tank holds a million bottles of beer. The move has already been postponed twice, and cancelled temporarily because of mechanical difficulties. Months of planning have gone into preparing for the move. "Several routes were considered before this was finalized," said Sarah Sheehan, communications co-ordinator of Challenger Motor Freight. She said the highest speed the convoy would travel at is 30 km/h, but at turns with a tiller man steering from behind, One of the huge beer vats Challenger Motor Freight Co. hopes to move from Hamilton to the Molson Coors Brewery on Carlingview Dr. near Pearson Airport.
