The baton has changed place as of Feb. 1 when the founding member of the group, Bram Gregson, retired after 17 years with Intrada. Taking over as music director is Kevin Norbury, who has been the band's associate director for the past four years and has played principal horn even before then. Norbury grew up in England where he played in brass bands, orchestras and concert bands. College and the Institute of Education at the University of London and has received both bachelors and masters degrees in music. He's also a composer of brass band music and an arranger. He has been commissioned by various organizations in North America and Europe to compose music and his pieces have been in Toronto, New York and London. Aside from his new duty with Intrada Brass, he is also director of music at King's Christian Collegiate in Oakville. His first concert as music director of Intrada Brass will be on Sunday, March 25, when the group plays at St. John's United Church. Flamenco show at CJ's Café in Bronte Celebrated Flamenco dancer Esmeralda Enrique and a troupe of dancers will wow an audience when they perform at CJ's Café in Bronte Sunday, Feb. 12. The Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company will present the Fabulous Flamenco Fiesta with live dance, music and song. Enrique began dancing professionally at the age of 14, performing under the watchful eyes of Spain's masters and in some of the world's most prestigious theatres. In Canada, she earned acclaim as a performer, artistic director and teacher. She was named one of the 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians in 2008 and has earned accolades as a performer and choreographer. The café is located at 2416 Lakeshore Rd. W. Jazz concert series kicks off Sunday The new season of Jazz at the Museum will kick off Sunday, Feb. 12 with the music of singer/keyboardist Michael Keys. The fundraising concerts, which will run between February and May in the Halton Region Museum's Hearth Room, are a joint presentation of the museum and the Halton Museum Foundation. "I invite residents to mark the 2012 dates in their calendars," said Nancy Field, manager, heritage services for Halton Region. "Our lineup of regionally-known artists will appeal to all jazz lovers and hopefully inspire some new fans to visit the museum as well." The series will continue Sunday, Mar. 11 with singer Rachel Melas, at home in a variety of genres including folk, jazz, country, Cajun and Klezmer/swing. On Sunday, Apr. 8, jazz vocalist Margot Roi will perform. And The Three Guitars will return on Mother's Day Sunday, May 13 to wind up the series. The trio will perform songs from the Classic American Songbook, including Gershwin, Porter, Fats Waller and Bohemian Swing. Concert tickets, which cost $20, are available at the door and include complimentary snacks. Subscriptions for all four concerts cost $70. "Since the jazz series began four years ago, it has gained a loyal following," said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. "These concerts showcase top-notch talent and enhance the profile of the Halton Region Museum, drawing visitors from Halton, Hamilton and the GTA." The fundraising concerts support the museum's capital renovation programs.
