As part of the review, a number of boundary options and land uses were evaluated for Downtown Acton. Based on the evaluation and public and stakeholder comments, an expansion to the boundary of Downtown Acton is proposed (shown as a red dashed line on the map). Within Downtown Acton, there are three land use designations proposed as follows: The Downtown Core Sub-Area (shown in blue on the map) is proposed to continue to allow a wide range of commercial, residential, cultural and social uses. The Acton Downtown Complementary Sub-Area (shown in purple on the map) is predominantly residential today and it is proposed that this area could accommodate a limited range of small scale commercial and residential uses within the existing buildings as long as the character of the area was maintained and the residential areas are not negatively affected. The Acton Downtown Redevelopment Sub-Area (shown in orange on the map) is to be the location for townhouses, low rise apartments, and commercial uses in the vicinity of the future GO Train Station. Man burned in $325,000 house blaze By LISA TALLYN Staff Writer A man suffered smoke inhalation and burns to his face and neck while attempting to put out a fire in the basement of a Rexway Dr. home Wednesday night. Halton Hills Fire Department Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention and Public Education Harry Olivieri said firefighters were called to the blaze at 26 Rexway Dr. about 10:15 p.m. When they arrived, all five people (three adults and two children) who had been in home were outside and the basement was fully involved in fire. The blaze had spread to the first floor of the singlestorey house. One of the occupants of the home, a man who had been in the basement, was suffering from burns and smoke inhalation after he had gone back into the house to attempt to extinguish the blaze. He was taken by ambulance to Georgetown Hospital, then later transported to Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga. At press time is was unknown what his condition was. Thirty firefighters from both Georgetown stations fought the blaze. "It was a difficult operation due to the magnitude and amount of heat," said Olivieri. The fire was extinguished by 3:30 a.m., however, some firefighters remained at the house overnight to ensure the fire didn't reignite from hot spots. It was reported to firefighters that, before the blaze spread, a pile of clothes in a basement bedroom had been on fire. There was significant damage to the basement, first floor and structure of the home. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $325,000. An investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office was at the home Thursday to determine the cause. Olivieri said the home had working smoke alarms.
