12 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, April 21, 2011 GLT's Youth Company to present full-length play, opening next week By EMILY HALE GLTYC publicist Georgetown Little Theatre Youth Company presents its full-length spring production of Kaufman and Hart's uproarious comedy The Man Who Came To Dinner. When world-famous New York City radio personality-- and insufferable pain in the... -- Sheridan Whiteside ends up convalescing in the home of Ernest and Daisy Stanley · in Mesalia, Ohio, the Stanleys' neat and orderly lives are turned upside down. The combination of the Stanleys' eccentric family and Mr. Whiteside's celebrity guests make for more than a few wild encounters. No one escapes the witty wrath of Whiteside, from his nurse to his famous Hollywood friends. When Whiteside's faithful gal Friday, Maggie Cutler, meets local newspaperman Bert Jef- ferson, romantic sparks fly and Whiteside plots a scheme to break up the young couple so he can keep his assistant. Penguins, mummy cases and murderers abound in this comedy from the Pulitzer Prize-winning duo. GLTYC has staged many dramas since their first show in 2003. The Man Who Came to Dinner is their first attempt at pure comedy. Director Sam Hancock presented the script to the company as an anniversary homage to the farces that GLT has staged over the past 50 seasons. The young cast and crew members have been rehearsing since January to fine-tune their comic timing, practice pratfalls and choreograph the multiple exits and entrances that are the hallmark of great Broadway comedies. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. April 28-29, May 4-7; with 2 p.m. matinee performances on April 30, May 1 and 7. All performances at GLT Studio, 33 Stewarttown Rd. GLT celebrates 50 years of theatre on Saturday, May 28, at the Glencairn Golf & Country Club. Call 905-877-3422 to purchase YC tickets or Gala tickets.
