At a recent meeting, Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) directed staff to proceed with construction of classroom additions at St. Brigid, St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Joseph with a total budget of $4,740,000. Funding for the project-- $4.2 million-- comes from the Ministry of Education's fullday kindergarten program and the primary class size reduction allocation. The remainder-- $524,046-- comes from the HCDSB's facility renewal reserve funds. "The release of funding for additions to St. Brigid, St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Joseph schools is wonderful news for our students and our community," said Halton Hills Catholic Trustee Mark Rowe. "While money to accommodate promised all-day Kindergarten was expected, the recognition of the needs of our schools for additional classrooms is gratifying. Our board staff correctly identified the overcrowding at these three schools and the need for portables, which they successfully communicated to the Ministry of Education."
