Classics auto show attracts a wide variety of vehicles Continued from pg. 1 Key players with Classics Against Cancer include longtime chairman and local businessman Moe Lamothe, who is still involved in the arduous task of computer work with the judges and another chairman, Dan Wagstaff. Wagstaff is a huge Chrysler fan as an owner of six different models as well as a beautiful award-winning classic car, which he has shown at the event a number of times. For the last few years Dan Edwards has been at the helm of a committee with as many as 100 volunteers to make the shows successful. His many years in business, organizing Bang-O-Rama and serving as past president of the Georgetown Optimist Club have taught him a thing or two about getting an event of this magnitude together. The first year of the show there were only 135 vehicles, but now between 300 and 400 take part. Exhibitors come from all over Ontario as well as from the United States. The vehicles included almost everything from antiques from the turn of the 20th century to the muscle cars of the 50s and 60s as well as 70s. Pre-war monsters, even a variety of European vehicles with a section for British cars, were on display. Let's not forget fire trucks, police cars and even army jeeps! In the past, there have been rally champions, including Tom and Trish McGreer in their Subaru WRX rally car, as well as Dan and Frank Sprongle with their Audi rally car. The "Lowered Intentions" (post 1980) class was introduced a few years ago by young auto enthusiasts Jason Millar and Jonathan Frenette. It has grown to more than 50 "newer" vehicles, which include Mustangs, Camaros, Dodge Challengers/Chargers, Hyundai Genesis, as well as some great Euro vehicles and a number of souped-up Civics. This is a great way to show off newer cars that would have otherwise been left out of this event. Whatever your post-1980 car may be, if it looks good and sounds great bring it along. You can contact the organizers for details at loweredintentions.ca. For almost 20 years, Gaeton "Gates" Bason has been taking literally thousands of photos at the shows. Bason is one of those guys who loves the vehicles and loves taking photos so put the two together and you have an amazing collection of vehicles exhibiting at the show as well as family shots, musicians and the various venders at the show. This event is one of the largest juried events anywhere. With 20 classes and many impressive trophies, the exhibi- 3 Classics Against Cancer, Tuesday, June 14, 2011 Steve Shelestynsky of Waterdown checks out 1952 Ford M38 utility 4X4 truck, used in the army. It is an extra joy to win. Tradition this year continues with the various classes, the ever-popular goodie bag with lots of "stuff" donated from the many generous local businesses and let's not forget the famous and delicious pancake breakfast. Last year approximately 4,000 people attended the show. Over the years there have been some great musicians performing, such as Rolly Rocker and the Hemi-Heads, Kent Tocher's one-man band, The DixSee SHOW, pg. 4 Thursdays June 16th to October 6th 3pm - 7pm New Vendors: The Glen Oven Café fresh breads Albion Hills deli meats & summer sausages HeathEnut Café & Juice Bar sprouts, hummus Jamie's Cracked Corn homemade on site Nikki's Cake Pop Shop cake on a stick Returning Vendors: Andrews Scenic Acres vegetables, flowers, fruits, tarts, pies & jams Whole Circle Farms organic vegetables, fruits & fresh frozen meats Teresa's Garden- vegetables & fruits Cody's Cows fresh frozen meats, eggs & milk Jennie's Favourite Foods sausages & hot dogs ...and many more!
