Speak up now to oppose two freeways through Halton Hills The Ontario Ministry of Transportation seems hell-bent to put not one, but two major super freeways through the Town of Halton Hills sometime in the future. The GTA West Environmental Assessment Study recommends the construction of a new east-west freeway running diagonally from south of Georgetown to connect to Tremaine Rd., called 4-3. A second super freeway north-south is also proposed, called 4-2. I wrote Minister Kathleen Wynne as far back as August 2010 and stated "That 4-3 should not be an alternative as it will totally fragment the agriculture land area in the southern portion of Halton Hills and it will mean a significant loss of important agricultural lands in the GTA. Make no mistake Minister, Alternative 4-3 will have a long lasting negative impact on Halton Hills." Why not widen the 401 in an urban form rather than a rural form or look at rail service? You can read more online at www. GTA-West.com and I urge you ALL to email project_team@gta-west.com and Minister Wynne at: kwynne@ mpp.co.liberal.olo.org or phone 416425-6777. This is an uphill struggle as many nearby municipalities and the Province are pushing for these super highways. **** Council recently approved $2.68 million for the Georgetown Hospital expansion and CT scanner. Did you know that every year, 1,500 patients are being transferred to out of town hospitals for a CT scan? Our dedicated doctors, nurses, technicians and staff are working in an out-dated hospital that was built in 1961. We desperately need an expansion. Without the Town assisting www.georgetownlittletheatre.ca 7 Independent & Free Press, Tuesday, June 14, 2011 AUDITIONS FOR "The Lion in Winter" Rick Bonnette in funding, we may have to wait eight or nine years for approval. The CT scanner and expansion is not a want, but a need for our community. We cannot afford to wait that long for improved health care. Thank you Dr. Jeff Sutherland for your special guest column (Independent & Free Press, May 26). There is still a shortfall of $1.84 million for this important project; thank you MPP Ted Arnott for your efforts. **** The Halton Hills Cultural Roundtable has been organizing many amazing events throughout Halton Hills for the Big Daddy Festival.
