22 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, June 16, 2011 Dancers to spend summer dancing Volunteers, families are welcome to Continued from pg. 20 The three teens train locally at Center Stage School of the Arts in Georgetown and are thrilled that they were chosen to attend the prestigious school. During the month of July, they will be evaluated by the staff with the hopes of being chosen to attend the full-time academic program this Fall. The RWB School Academic Program is a full-time, seven-level program. The regular Fall/Winter Session runs from September to June, in conjunction with the academic school year. Students enter as young as 11 or academic Grade 6. As of September 2010, former RWB School Professional Division students constitute 78% of RWB Company dancers. Graduates are also dancing, teaching and working as choreographers in companies and schools worldwide. Julia, Laura and Delaney will be holding various fundraising activities around Georgetown such as garage sales. A car wash will be held on June 18, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hassell's Automotive, 45 Mountainview Rd. N. to help with their expenses in Winnipeg. Watch the community events notices and consider supporting the aspirations of these ballet dancers. Fairy Lake Planting Day on Saturday Join staff from Credit Valley Conservation (CVC) Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources (POWER) and the Town of Halton Hills to plant native shrubs along the shore of Fairy Lake and learn more about the environment at the same time! The planting will be done on Saturday, June 18 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the north shore of Fairy Lake in Rotary Park on Elizabeth Dr. Bring the family along to learn more about the lake habitat and the importance of shoreline restoration. CVC's stewardship team will be on hand to offer some hands-on learning about native shrubs, how to plant them, and how they contribute to the local environment. Members of POWER will host fun activities for the family including a birds of prey demonstration, crafts for the kids and other environmentally friendly displays! Town staff will also be present to answer questions about Fairy Lake and steps being taken to improve water quality. Afterwards, enjoy the Superior Glove splash pad in Prospect Park and relax in the park. After 4 p.m., join the activities in Prospect Park as the Big Daddy Festival offers food, games and movies in the park for the whole family.
