YOU AND YOUR PET Peppi is charm and fun rolled into one STORIES By JUDITH-ANNE KOLU Upper Credit Humane Society volunteer Lodged in the Annex at the Shelter, it is hard to miss Peppi who is a very clean looking semi-tuxedo (black and white) feline. He is 18 months old and arrived at the Shelter in November last year. Peppi is so aptly named as it broadcasts that this young man is very active and playful. We promise you will be immediately disarmed; one look at that little face with his nose "dipped in soot" will intrigue you. Bright of eye, Peppi is definitely full of "pep", he is thrilled when let out of his cage and activity can begin, playfully chasing and interacting and full of life. Peppi absolutely LOVES catnip, the caregivers say in fact is he is an addict...and when able to indulge in his addiction is quite hilarious! Peppi does enjoy and comes for rubs and interaction but is young and wants to live life to the fullest so has not attained lap cat status as yet... The other cats are a question mark, we feel he could live in a household with another dominant cat but he does want to play a little too much for quieter cats who find his enthusiasm a little more than they would want. Peppi is for a family who want a fun, independent cat, There is always a "slim' chance that an adoption will not work out and so it was for Slim who was returned because of anxiety when left alone for long periods of time. We are confident that YOU are out there it is just finding the right fit. Slim is a year-old Basset/Foxhound cross, a 33-lb tricolour male; this boy was bred to hunt, but instead spends a large part of his days in his pod. Slim is ever on the watch for a human's approach, alert and as cute as a button, wiggling with joy, Will I be let out? Will they play with me? Will we go for a walk? Whatever you want, I'm up for it...can't you see my young heart and body want "freedom"? Slim definitely has the high energy of his mixed breed, has his basic commands, loves EVERYBODY: adults, children, dogs, cats, no "slim" pickin's here...just an all encompassing heart. Slim does soil his kennel and unless it is Shelter nerves will need to have a family willing to reintroduce him to house proofing. Walking on a leash is joyous for Slim but his happiness at being in the wild blue yonder makes him a candidate for extra leash work. That nose scenting the ground can make those short legs scurry along but this happy go lucky boy just needs love and direction and his smart little mind will soon comply. Slim will need a secure fenced yard because 29 Independent & Free Press, Thursday, June 16, 2011 an adult family or one with children who are not preschoolers. The one criteria is a home with room for Peppi to bounce around and play to his heart's content. We guarantee with Peppi by your side, loneliness will not be an option as he will fill your home with love and laughter.. If Peppi sounds like a cat you would enjoy adding to your family, give him a call at 519-833-2287 or email adoptions@uppercredit.com Please give Slim a chance because he loves EVERYBODY! again that nose could lead him off on paths unknown, and if left to his own devices in an outside run, he could possibly dig his way to freedom. The caregivers feel that when an adoptive family gives him lots of interaction and company, he will be much more interested in playing and being with you than wandering off. Boredom is his enemy and like all young creatures he will find something to do to alleviate it! "Slim" will grow in confidence with a family who work from home or have a family member home for a large part of the day. In summary, if you are looking for a virtual "blank slate", a dog that is extremely loving and trusting who seems to be asking "Can you teach me to be a good boy". If you feel up to the challenge, give us a call at 519-833-2287 and prepare to meet a very endearing boy! We're adopted!...
