Council defers decision on Sixth Line subdivision By CYNTHIA GAMBLE Staff Writer Ratification of a council decision to allow a Sixth Line rural estate subdivision, has been delayed to the June 27 meeting. Council made the decision to delay ratification at the June 13 meeting, to allow all Sixth Line residents a chance to view the staking of the new entrance to the 20-lot subdivision on 117-acres located on Sixth Line, just north of 17 Sideroad. The new entrance was a compromise reached after a June 9 meeting between residents, Town, Credit Valley Conservation, and the developer's representatives. But the residents, who appeared at the June 13 meeting, still weren't happy with the new location, suggesting the deferral should be until September to give more time for negotiating an entrance further south. "The current one is the path of least resistance but not of safety," said Kevin Lake, who is leading the residents' position on this issue. Their concern is the entrance is on a hill and could pose a safety hazard for children waiting for the school bus. Lake's home is almost directly across from the entrance. But Glenn Wellings, planning consultant for Esquesing Development Ltd., noting this is the second time the entrance has been moved to accommodate residents' concerns, warned that CVC environmental restrictions may prevent a further adjustment, but they are willing to look at a further refinement. He added that the location has been deemed safe by professional engineers, and signed off by the Town. "An access is either safe or it's not," said Wellings, "and this is safe." Wellings confirmed while he would accept a deferral of ratification until the June 27 meeting, they could not accept a September deferral. He confirmed the property is in the midst of being sold to a builder effective July 15. Other residents expressed concern about impact on private wells, light pollution, noise, lack of consultation, and loss of trees.
