Introducing HHS' New Board Chair Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) is pleased to announce that John Fleming has been elected as the new Board Chair for the HHS Board of Directors for a two year term. John has served as a Board member since June 2004 and replaces Mags Shorey who completed her term in June 2011 and remains on the Board as Past Chair. John brings extensive leadership and governance experience to his new role. As a determined and articulate leader, he has already made significant contributions to HHS as the Chair of the Quality and Risk Management Committee, and as a member of numerous other committees. John holds a Chartered Director designation, and has served in the past as the CAO of both Halton Region and the City of London; as an Ontario Deputy Minister in several portfolios, and as the President and CEO of The Arthritis Society. He also serves now on the Board of the Sponsors Corporation of OMERS, one of Canada's largest pension funds. Royal Canadian Legion Support The Georgetown Hospital Foundation would also like to thank the Royal Canadian Legion Branches of Georgetown and Acton. The members of these organizations work hard to raise funds for many important causes in our community and across our country. This Spring, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 120 contributed $10,000 from their poppy fund to help fund medical equipment for Georgetown Hospital and Branch 197 from Acton also helped the hospital acquire top priority equipment with their gift of $8,728. Many thanks on behalf of the patients and families who will benefit from these generous gifts to improve care at Georgetown Hospital. HHS & McMaster University Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) is now formally affiliated with McMaster University to train medical residents and students at its three hospitals Georgetown Hospital, Milton District Hospital and Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Together HHS and McMaster will collaboratively develop a Clinical Education Centre (CEC) to increase clinical learning opportunities for all levels of medical trainees including medical students and residents. The CEC will serve as a hub to develop, organize and coordinate clinical rotations through HHS' three community hospitals. Through this partnership, McMaster University will provide funding as well as resources to support medical training while HHS affords the medical learners with the opportunity to gain hands on experience by training at one of its community hospitals alongside its physicians. The agreement is based on up to 60 placements across HHS' three hospitals annually and will supports HHS' mission to constantly improve and seek innovations in providing care and service.
