It is now wheelchair accessible. Electrically it was improved with a more sophisticated lighting system. There is a hidef video feed from the alter to the new sacristy, parish centre and directory. Collins was proud of the completed work, saying it was an example of a job done right. The new building material was manufactured in Canada, much of it also in Oakville. The finishing touch of the church was the cross, an exact duplicate of the original. This one, however, was made of stainless steel, manufactured by Oakville's Custom Cupola & Steeple Co. Ltd. The cross is lightning protected and the material is guaranteed to last a long time, said Custom Cupola owner Brian Rand., whose crew was on site to attach the cross. "That cross will be there forever," Rand said "The building will fall down before that cross needs replacing." The church community raised roughly half of the capital costs, while the rest was loaned to the church by the chancery office of the Diocese of Hamilton. Peter Kent to speak to Chamber The Oakville Chamber of Commerce will host the Minister of the Environment for Canada Peter Kent at an Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Kent will speak about effective environmental protection as a partner in prosperity. "With environmental issues being top-ofmind in Oakville, we are very excited about the opportunity to host Minister Kent," said Wendy Rinella, Oakville Chamber of Commerce Chair. "The Chamber works very hard to build strong working relationships with political leaders so we can be as effective as possible in our role as an advocate for a healthy and sustainable business environment in Oakville." The minister's visit marks the latest in a series of speaking engagements the Chamber has hosted in Oakville. Registration for the luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m., with the event itself running from noon-1:30 p.m. Oakville Chamber of Commerce members can attend for $35; non-members for $45. Tables of eight can be reserved for $280 for members and $360 for non-members. The Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre is located at 2515 Wyecroft Rd.
