When our Studio 7 students (ages 8 -12) came back to Forest Grove in the new year, they had one thing on their minds ­ a new X-Box for their after school program, but how to get it? They collaborated with their teachers, brought their ideas to the directors and the result was that the students would host a bazaar, donating the proceeds to charity, and in recognition of their efforts, the directors would fund their X-Box dream. Studio 7 got to work. The students created original artwork, jewelry, scarves and games. They ran a silent auction, a raffle and even a bubble blowing game at 50 cents a try. At first they didn't know where their hard earned money was going to go, but when one of the students suggested the Newman Boys fund, the support was unanimous. Within a week, no one was talking about the X-Box anymore. It is hosted by Halton Community Employment Services, Goodwill Works, HIEC (Halton Industry and Education Council), Halton Region, Sheridan College -- Community Employment Services, The Centre for Skills Development and Training, Vpi of Milton, and YMCA of Burlington. Job seekers can bring resumes and visit the Resource Room for printing and copying needs. Employers will be recruit- ing for position from entry level to management and from office administration to skilled trades.
