In a press release issued Saturday, Interim Liberal Leader Bob Rae listed Oakville as one of 27 ridings where, he charged, the local Liberal Party suffered setbacks due to a widespread series of dirty tricks. More than 100 participants had the choice to walk a two-, five- or 10-kilometre route. Proceeds from the WALK, which raised $30,000, will support the programs KSM provides to low-income families. The event also raised awareness of what it is like to be out in the cold and hungry on frigid winter nights. When confronted by a coyote, the students of St. Matthew Catholic Elementary School learned to "be a big, strong, scary human" at presentation yesterday. Liz Benneian of Oakvillegreen visited the school to speak to students about what they should do when faced by a coyote and how to keep the animals away. Benneian has been visiting a number of Oakville Catholic schools this week with a similar message, as part of the Town of Oakville's coyote education program.
