28 Independent & Free Press,Thursday, November 17, 2011 Mayor to host HIEC breakfast focused on future workforce With shifting demographics and an evolving business landscape, Halton and other communities across Ontario are now faced with the daunting task of preparing the next generation of workers. Learn how local businesses and community members can inspire the future workforce by joining the Halton Industry Education Council (HIEC) at this year's Fall Breakfast with the Mayors on Wednesday, November 23, from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at RattleSnake Point Golf Club in Milton. Hosts Mayor Rick Bonnette of Halton Hills and Mayor Gordon Krantz of Milton will help HIEC celebrate 22 years of business, education and community partnerships and the second annual province-wide Experiential Learning Week. Organized by the Provincial Partnership Council (PPC) and Passport to Prosperity, Experiential Learning Week pays tribute to local employers who have taken the critical step of opening their doors to students through cooperative education, job shadowing, mentoring and other experiential learning opportunities. The week also works as a way to raise awareness of how these opportunities benefit students and to get other business owners involved in helping to inspire our future workforce. To add to the theme of "Inspiring Your Future Workforce," and rounding out the program is keynote speaker Neil Hetherington, the CEO of Habitat for Humanity Toronto. Upon graduation from college, Hetherington NEIL HETHERINGTON volunteered with Habitat for Humanity International, building homes for the homeless all over the world. In 2000, at age 26, and with no experience as a com- pany head, Hetherington quit his job to become CEO of Habitat for Humanity Toronto. Today, Habitat Toronto has a staff of 29 plus and an army of construction volunteers whose mission is to build 100 homes each year. Hetherington shares his career and life passion, and tells us how his spontaneous career chance helped change the lives of so many. HIEC thanks keynote sponsor, Teachers Credit Union, for helping bring Hetherington to Halton.
