Joining them will be three aspiring professional singers from Sheridan's Musical Theatre program in Oakville. Chorus alumnus Joanna Fraser will sing a jazzy rendition of The Christmas Song (aka The Chesnut Song) as well as a duet of O Holy Night with Katie Kerr. Joanna is well known to local audiences, performing with Globe Productions, GLT and singing at local hockey games. She sang with the Children's Chorus for 12 years and developed her love of music there, under the tutelage of conductor A. Dale Wood. Katie Kerr is from Windsor and was a finalist on the TV show, How do you solve a problem like Maria? She also performed at the Charlottetown Festival as Diana in Anne of Green Gables. Calvin Lavek was born and raised in Whitehorse Yukon and has traveled far from home to attend Sheridan's elite Musical Theatre program. He has spent the past four summers performing as "Ragtime Kid" in a Yukon follies show, where he sang and played piano, ragtime style. Katie and Calvin will perform Baby It's Cold Outside, clearly a nod to Christmas in Canada! The Children's Chorus portion of the concert features songs from 14 countries around the world, including Carol of the Bells (Ukraine), The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy (Trinidad), Issay, Issay (Ethiopia) and Ding Dong Merrily on High (France). Additional songs are from Italy, Mexico, Germany, Spain and Czechoslovakia. The Cherubs (age 5- 6) and Juniors (age 7-8), usually steal the show with their sweet voices and their antics, while the Senior and Performance choirs will thrill us with five-part harmonies. The Intermediates (age 9-11) will perform the wonderful song Merry Christmas in Six Languages. New members are welcome to join in January ($75 for the Spring season), and the Canada Day trip to Ottawa for kids aged 9 and up has four openings. As a special offer, prospective members and one parent are eligible for free admission at door. For current members/families and the general public, tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children.
