By JULIE CONROY Acton Seniors Centre Members of the Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centres were disappointed to discover through the local media that plans for both the Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centres' future expansions had disappeared from future budgets. Acton Seniors Centre President Bev Jones and Georgetown Seniors Centre President Rick Chambers made presentations to council expressing their disappointment and asking for the budget plans to be reconsidered. The gallery was filled with members from both Acton and Georgetown showing support for the expansions to be included in the Forecast budgets. Councillor Fogal and Councillor Jon Hurst put forward resolutions to keep the projects alive. Halton Hills CAO, Treasurer and Director Recreation and Parks will be coming back to council with a financial strategy to make these muchneeded projects a reality. Thank you council members. SENIORS LIFESTYLES On Nov. 22, Centre members, assisted by Wendy, our co-ordinator and Linda Cousins (who was filling in for Michelle, our administrative assistant), decorated the tree and the Centre. I know it will infect everyone with the Christmas spirit, when visiting the Centre. To add to the enjoyment of the afteroon Douglas Davey with Halton Hills Public Library read us three stories, each with a Christmas theme, while we munched on goodies. My favourite was one of the later editions of The Diary of Adrian Mole. The British members listening related to his mother's secret recipe for Turkey gravy (Chicken OXO cubes and Bisto). The same day Georgetown and Acton members enjoyed a trip to Owen Sound to enjoy a turkey dinner at the Stone Tree Golf Course followed by a tour of the Northern Festival of Lights at Owen Sound Harbour. The comments I heard were how impressed they were with the day. Twenty people attended the fourth and final Health and Wellness lecture on Wednesday, Nov. 23. Everyone who attended found the topics interesting and informative. The Bazaar was a huge success, and the winner of the 50/50 was Ian McAllister. The huge Christmas basket was won by Janet Gunstone and the smaller one by Shirley Kruk. The Centre thanks everyone who attended, and special thanks from Sylvia and her committee to all members and friends who helped. You won't want to miss this delicious turkey dinner served up by Bruce Cunnington and his staff. Sometimes when we wait too long we are left out in the cold. I bet, like most people, you have started your Christmas shopping. How about considering something from the centre: 2012 membership for a relative or friend, one of the new curly scarves from crafts, taxi script tickets, ActiVan tickets, or a donation to the Centre on behalf of a family member or friend. It is time to think of signing up for Active Living Programs for the New Year. Believe it or not some of the classes are already at capacity.
