Vol. 50 No. 27 "Using Communication To Build Better Communities" Brekland Peace of mind principals facing charges By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF An Oakville realty corporation owner is facing multiple charges under the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act (REBBA) 2002 in connection with the registration suspension of Brekland Realty Group. The Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) has laid six charges against Jason Laramee, owner of Monster Realty Corporation, which operated as Brekland Realty Group. The brokerage and its Broker of Record, Matt Cappuccitti, were also charged with offences under REBBA 2002. On Feb. 2, RECO suspended the registration of the brokerage and froze its bank accounts. "The suspension order and the charges relate to a significant shortfall of funds from the brokerage's trust account," said RECO Registrar Allan Johnston. It is scheduled to re-open in May. The Town's museum supervisor, Bill Nesbitt, said the building is in need of several upgrades. This will include the installation of a new heating and air-conditioning system to replace one that is about 35 years old. Further, the front lobby and reception area will receive a facelift and both, along with the entranceway, will be made fully accessible. Washrooms in the building will also be updated and a new-fully accessible family washroom will be added. The largest component of the renovation is the installation of the new HVAC system, Nesbitt said. "The HVAC upgrade is very necessary. Our current system has been repaired in bits and pieces over the years. Some of the components of that system are years past their useful life and others are coming up on it," he said. Much of the HVAC system, he said, is hidden from view in places such as attics, basements and crawl spaces throughout the museum. There is a visible portion on the roof of the modern addition to the building. "The new heat pump technology and airhandling systems are vastly more energy efficient than what we have so it's going to make a big difference to the operational cost of the museum," he said.
