With 22-year-old local resident and cancer survivor Shana Dinwoody in goal, the Leafs' oldtimers prevailed over the firefighters on the scoreboard, but the big winner on the day was the beneficiary of the event, Cancer Assistance Services Halton Hills, for which about $11,000 was raised. Photo by Jon Borgstrom Despite 10-game winning streak Raiders will tinker with lineup By EAMONN MAHER Staff Writer Even though they didn't play a game this past week, the Georgetown Raiders were busy working the phones off the ice, looking to add pieces to what they hope will be a championship run. The Ontario Junior Hockey League's roster cutdown deadline arrives at midnight tonight (Tuesday) and the West Division-leading Raiders have some room to augment an already veteranladen roster consisting of several 19and 20-year-olds. Head coach and general manager Greg Walters was looking at some acquisition options Monday and said he wouldn't be surprised if discussions continued right up until the deadline. The Raiders will be in Buffalo Tuesday night for a contest against the Jr. Sabres. "We're actively looking to improve the team and there are a number of things we're looking into, but nothing to report yet," Walters said Monday. "If we can get something to help us, great, but we're very happy with the way the team's GREG been playing WALTERS and we'll keep working on getting better going into the playoffs." Georgetown has won 10 straight games, yet the Oakville Blades are still close behind, just two points back with each team having 13 regular-season games remaining. The Raiders are in the middle of a three games in three weeks stretch, which has allowed the squad to return to full strength on the injury front. "It's been a good break for the players to rest up and get healthy," Walters added. "We're first in the league in power plays and second in penalty killing, so it's just general maintenance work at this point. We're really happy with the way the guys have bought into what we've been preaching." Last week, defenceman Nathan Domagala had a goal and two assists to lead the Raiders to a 4-1 victory over the host Hamilton Red Wings last week. Tyson Fawcett, Daniel McNamara and Jacob Bauchman also tallied for first-place Georgetown, with netminder Steven Racine blocking 20 of 21 to improve his record since being acquired last month to 6-0-0. The 27-8-1 Raiders have won all five games against Hamilton this season, with one more meeting left here on Jan. 21. The Raiders will also host the Aurora Tigers on Saturday at Alcott Arena at 7:30 p.m. Spiel winners A record $1,200 was raised for the Upper Credit Humane Society by curlers taking part in the annual Gouldiespiel tournament held at The Club at North Halton during the holidays. Another $400 worth of dry good items was also donated to the local branch of the Humane Society by the participants, with over $3,000 in prizes contributed by businesses and individuals to the annual event.
