These were just a few of the figures Town council discussed recently during the presentation of Oakville's annual economic development report. The Town's Economic Development Department Director Dorothy St. George said the 325,000 square feet of office development took place at three Dorothy St. George sites. A 115,000-sq.-ft. office building constructed at 1565 North Service Rd. E., will house the new headquarters for Siemens Canada. Three facilities totaling 120,000 square feet are being constructed at the Joshua Creek Corporate Centre, located at the intersection of Hwy. 403 and the QEW, to house financial service companies as well as information technology (IT) and digital firms. Finally, a 90,000-sq.-ft. development will make up phase 2 of the Great Lakes Business Park at 1320 Cornwall Rd. These developments account for investments of nearly $40 million. The gift, which is the single largest private donation ever made to a children's hospital in Canada, was announced yesterday (Wednesday) at a press conference at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. Gilgan's $40 million will support the construction and ongoing operating costs of the SickKids Centre for Research and Learning. When complete, the facility will hold a research staff of 2,000.
