Oakville's Town council voted Monday, not to reexamine on-street parking bylaws, which prohibit onstreet parking on Douglas Avenue, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., between Spruce Street and Sheddon Avenue. Douglas Avenue residents who spoke at the meeting welcomed the news, but not the several residents of the surrounding streets who say the Town has made Douglas Avenue's parking problem their problem. On-street parking near Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) has long Shauna Clinning been an issue with some hospital visitors parking on nearby streets rather than pay for parking at the hospital. In 2008, following a residents' petition, council restricted parking on Spruce Street, near OTMH. In 2011, residents of nearby Douglas Avenue followed suit, as did council, and parking was subsequently restricted on Douglas. While the move has eased congestion on Douglas Avenue, residents on nearby streets, such as MacDonald Road, Maple and Watson avenues, say they are paying the price.
