Iacobucci, whose career with the Supreme Court of Canada spanned 13 years from 19912004, is expected to discuss the role of the Supreme Court in Canada's past, present and future. Born, raised and educated in Vancouver, Iacobucci also attended Cambridge University. In 1964, he began his career as a lawyer at a large New York firm. In 1967, he joined the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto, and was a professor of law there until 1985. In 1985, Iacobucci was appointed Deputy Minister of Justice and Deputy Attorney General for Canada, then in 1988, Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Canada -- in 1991 he was appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada. Iacobucci was appointed a Companion in the Order of Canada in July of 2007 and in 2009 received the Justice Medal for lifetime achievement from the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice. In 2005, he joined Torys LLP as counsel and currently serves as chair of the Higher Education Quality Council of Ontario, Conduct Review Advisor for the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, and is a member of the board of directors of Tim Hortons Inc. and of the Advisory Board of General Motors of Canada. He has acted for the federal government and the Ontario government on major matters involving alleged terrorists, aboriginal people, Afghan detainees and more. Registration and cash bar start at 6 p.m., with the dinner itself beginning at 7 p.m. The threecourse dinner costs $35 for members, $45 for non-members and $15 for students.
