Vol. 50 No. 32 "Using Communication To Build Better Communities" THURSDAY, MARCH 15, 2012 300-foot landmark to fall Saturday morning By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Any residents who hear a couple of loud crashes early Saturday morning need not be concerned. It's probably just a portion of the Ford Plant crumbling to the ground. Ford of Canada internal communications manager Kerri Stoakley announced, Wednesday, that Ford will be demolishing several unused buildings and one paint stack, which were previously part of the old Oakville Assembly Plant paint shop. The demolition of the stack is scheduled to take place Saturday at 6 a.m. All of these structures were decommissioned five years ago following the construction of a paint facility within Ford's Oakville Assembly Complex. Stoakley said the demolition of the unused buildings is an energy efficient and cost-effective choice. "On that day, there will be absolutely no access to the area within a 1,000-foot radius of the stack until 9 a.m. This radius does not extend into the surrounding neighbourhoods. The Canadian Road will be closed from approximately 5 a.m.-9 a.m.," said Stoakley. Town council will be confronted with this question, Monday, when dealing with a staff recommendation in which they are asked not to maintain the 200-metre setback between cell towers and all sensitive land uses (including dwelling units) in their Final Radiocommunications Facilities Protocol. Town staff will instead recommend council go with a 20-metre setback from See Recommendations page 3 children during the March Break Mad Science event at the mall.
