Venom midgets earn gold in Stoney Creek Losses in its first two games weren't enough to deter the Oakville Venom major midget boys #2 basketball team at a recent tournament in Stoney Creek. Oakville bounced back from a 46-39 loss to Toronto Triple Threat and a 61-58 defeat at the hands of Stoney Creek to win its next three games and claim The Battle of Stoney Creek tournament championship. One of those wins came over Venom #1, the higherranked team from the same Oakville Basketball Club, in the semifinals. Just like it began the tournament, Venom #2 started slowly, trailing 20-10 after the first quarter. Venom #2 rallied the rest of the game, however, to win 67-57. Venom #2 met Stoney Creek once again in the championship game. Oakville overcame another 10-point first-quarter deficit to pull out a 55-53 victory. "Our coaches played everybody and adjusted the lines to give us a changing face to our opponents," said Venom #2 point guard Thomas Evers. "They were a key part of our win." Oakville's other victory at the tournament came over Grimsby, 57-39. Other members of the team are Ryan Newman, David Salib, Eli Rodney, Keegan Borges, Perry Wyslobicky, Matt Tierney, Theo Will-Dryden, Trenton Ford, Gurvir Bassan and Jeff Boateng. Sieg Will, Allen Harrington and Jason Rodney coach the team.
