Award-winning Métis author to speak at Robert Little School Best-selling Canadian author and sought-after public speaker David Bouchard will speak on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Robert Little Public School in Acton, and on February 17 at Rolling Meadows Public School, Burlington. The Halton District and Halton Catholic District School Boards' joint Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee is presenting the event, 6:30-8 p.m. Bouchard leaves his listeners with inspiration and strategies necessary to address literacy head on. A former teacher and principal, Bouchard is an award-winning Métis author of over 56 best-selling books. "The greatest gift we can give our children is the gift of reading," says Bouchard. "There is no magic in giving it. There is no toy or program that will do the job for us. It takes time, commitment and most of all, fire. We cannot hope to light a fire in the hearts of others without a fire burning in our own. Light and stoke yours, then spread the flame fast and furious. Let literacy be your legacy." Bouchard's visit also serves to promote the Boards' policies for self-identification of Aboriginal students. The policies are designed to set high expectations for learner achievement, improve EQAO scores, and provide high quality learning opportunities to improve the retention and graduation rate of Aboriginal students. Please RVSP to saevils@hdsb.ca or 905-632-4814, ext. 5687 by February 6. Light refreshments will be served. Door prizes are available. 17 The IFP · Halton Hills, Thursday, February 2, 2012 The Regional Municipality of Halton UUU F?JRML A? Expropriations Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. E.26.
