The CFUW kicked off 2012 with a talk by "one of their own," Matthew Johnson, who shared his knowledge of stem cells with the assembed crowd. The Georgetown chapter of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) kicked off the new year on January 10 with an interesting lecture on stem cells. Led by Matthew Johnson, a business development manager with the Ontario Centres of Excellence and the son of CFUW member Moya Johnson, the talk focused on the different types of stem cells, where they come from, how they are made, and various current and future clinical applications. The next CFUW meeting is scheduled for February 7 and will feature guest speaker Dr. Debbie Zeni, who will be leading a discussion titled "The Growth of a Cooperative Health Care Project in Uganda." More than 20 groups and individuals of all ages created paintings about what the library means to them. The art can be found on the Market Street hoarding and will remain on display there until the building's grand reopening in 2012.
