Halton Hills' population rose by 6.7 per cent between the 2006 and 2011 Censuses The town's population climbed to 59,088 last year from 55,289 in 2006. Between the 2001 and 2006 Census periods Halton Hills' population grew by 14.7 per cent from 48,184 to 55,289. Halton Region, now with 501,669 residents, experienced a population increase of 14.2 per cent between 2006 and 2011 thanks largely to the Town of Milton, which was the fastest growing municipality in Canada. Milton's population soared by 56.5 per cent from 2006-2011 as more than 30,000 new residents moved to Halton Hills' neighbour. Milton now has 84,362 residents and has been the nation's fastest-growing community for the past two Censuses, climbing by 71.4 per cent between 200106. "We've embraced growth," said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz.
