But the slumping Blades have looked vulnerable before in the regular season, only to peak for the playoffs. The last time the Raiders won the West Division and took top spot overall was in 2008-09 with Rockwood's Andrew Marcoux and Chicago Blackhawks' prospect Brandon Pirri leading the charge. Georgetown trailed the divisional championship series 3-1 to Oakville before rallying back to force a seventh game on home ice, but came out flat in front of a capacity Alcott Arena crowd and watch the Blades take home the hardware again. How the West was won this year, however, comes with question marks. Only Georgetown and Oakville finished with better-than-.500 records in the seven-team division and third-place Buffalo looked dreadful in a 10-2 loss in Georgetown last Saturday evening. A decade ago, four or five teams from the West Division could have been considered league-championship contenders, but the proliferation of so-called "Daddy ownership" clubs has created more lopsided scores than ever and gamenight crowds consisting mainly of family members and friends of the players. Although the Raiders have had one of the better attendance marks over the years, their spectatorship has dropped as well for a variety of reasons. Georgetown was involved in just 11 games out of 49 that were decided by a goal this season and if it weren't for a crossover schedule with the strong North Division, only the three dates with Oakville could be considered worth spending money to see. Finally getting past Oakville in the playoffs might change the Raiders' fortunes, and they're certainly equipped for a long drive into the spring. Backstopped by University of Michigan recruit Steven Racine, who hasn't lost in 15 starts since joining the Raiders from a B.C. team, Georgetown likely has its best all-around team since the 2004-05 group that went to the Royal Bank Cup in Weyburn, Sask. That Raider team self-destructed due to penalties in the national championship tournament. Strangely enough, this year's RBC is also in Saskatchewan, with the Humboldt Broncos hosting May 5-13, nearly three long months away. The Dudley Hewitt Cup Central Canadian championship is in Thunder Bay April 17-21. 3 The IFP · RAIDER PLAYOFF PREVIEW * Halton Hills, Thursday, February 16, 2012 Ontario Jr. Hockey League West Division final standings Team yGeorgetown xOakville xBuffalo xBurlington xMilton xHamilton Brampton GP 49 49 49 49 49 49 49 W 33 28 20 18 15 11 6 OTW SOW OTL 3 2 2 0 0 2 0 3 1 1 2 3 4 0 1 2 4 0 1 2 1 SOL 0 4 1 0 2 3 0 L 9 12 21 29 28 27 42 PTS 79 68 51 40 39 39 13 PCT .806 .694 .520 .408 .398 .398 .133 GF 224 196 189 161 195 176 118 GA 109 120 189 205 264 241 276 PIM 1183 950 1059 1098 1211 888 790 HOME 16-3-0-5 17-3-2-2 8-2-3-11 12-0-0-13 9-2-1-13 7-5-2-11 3-0-0-22 AWAY 17-3-1-4 11-0-4-10 12-1-2-10 6-2-0-16 6-1-2-15 4-1-3-16 3-0-1-20 y-- clinched division title x-- clinched playoff berth Store Hours Mon - Wed 10-6 Thurs - Fri 10 -8 Sat 10 - 5 LEARN TO RUN & 10 KM CLINICS 2012 2 Levels > Beginner and 10KM Clinics run for 10 weeks on Tuesday evenings beginning at 6:30 pm and include: Guest Speakers > Detailed Schedule > Technical Running Shirt > Store Discount Dates > Spring Clinic: March 20th Summer Clinic: June 5th Fall Clinic: September 11th Stop in or call to register today!
