Police Toys campaign a success The Halton Police 2011 Toys-for-Tots campaign was an overwhelming success. A total of $316,000 in toys, gift cards, cash and food was collected, more than $136,000 higher than during last year's campaign. As a result, 3,500 Halton families were helped during the holiday season, 500 more than in 2010. This year's campaign focused on challenging individual schools, workplaces, churches, grocery stores and other community partners to donate. Two notable examples of kindness included a fiveyear-old Oakville boy and an 11-year-old Moffat girl who donated their birthday presents to the campaign to assist other children in need. Many new community partners joined the Toys-for-Tots campaign this year and many others continued their generous support, including: Oakville Minor Oaks Hockey Association, which raised over $65,000 and Burlington Lions Optimist Minor Hockey Association-- $30,000. Civilian and uniform members of the Halton Regional Police Service contributed their own time and personal funds to assist in the campaign collection of more than $58,000 in cash and toys at Canadian Tire locations, and donating more than $6,600 in cash and toys through individual platoon fundraisers and challenges. "The Toys-for-Tots program brings together individuals, community organizations and corporate entities within our Region with a common goal of helping those less fortunate," said Halton Regional Police Deputy Chief Andrew Fletcher. "The generosity exhibited during this year's campaign, especially during these difficult financial times, is a true reflection of the willingness of community members to become involved and make a difference in the lives of others. The Board has hired consulting firm Odgers Berndtson, which has helped other boards hire senior police executives across the country, to conduct the search.
