Oakville carried a 2-0 series lead into Game 3 of its first-to-six-points series with Whitby last night at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. If the Rangers didn't win last night (the game began after the Beaver's press deadlines), they'll have another opportunity to clinch OMHA gold tomorrow (Saturday) in Whitby. Oakville won the opening two games of the series, 6-1 at Glen Abbey and 2-0 at Whitby. Two more local teams will have a chance to claim OMHA supremacy tomorrow. The minor atom AE Rangers lead Barrie 2-1 heading into Game 4, a 7:30 p.m. start at Oakville Arena, while the atom AE Rangers have a 2-1 lead over Georgina as they prepare for a 4:30 p.m. clash at River Oaks Recreation Centre. The atom AE Rangers won the first two games of their series by 2-1 scores, but were denied the sweep with a 5-4 loss in Georgina Sunday. Oakville's minor bantam AA team could either win, lose or extend its OMHA final Sunday. The Rangers are tied 2-2 with Whitby, going into Game 5 in Whitby. Oakville lost Game 1 3-2 at Whitby, then posted 1-0 and 4-2 victories before falling 4-1 Wednesday at Joshua's Creek Arenas. If the teams tie Sunday, a sixth game would be required to determine a champion. Eight other Oakville teams were at least two wins away from an OMHA championship as of yesterday. The minor atom A Rangers have split the first two games of their final with Cobourg, dropping the opener 4-3 at home and earning a 4-3 victory in Cobourg in Game 2. The series resumes tomorrow at Oakville Arena, a 3 p.m. start. The minor atom AA Rangers hope to stay alive tomorrow when they host Barrie for a 4:30 p.m. game at River Oaks. The peewee AE 2 Rangers will continue their competitive series with Richmond Hill this weekend. Oakville defeated Richmond Hill 3-2 in the first game of the series, but the Stars squared things up with a 5-4 win at Glen Abbey on Sunday. Both games went to overtime. The minor midget AA and minor midget AE Rangers are both tied 1-1 through two games of their OMHA finals. The AA team split a pair of games in Kingston last weekend (winning 6-4 and losing 5-2), and will now host the next two games tonight (9 p.m.) and tomorrow (6 p.m.) at Joshua's Creek. The AE Rangers, who downed Peterborough Church 4-1 in Game 1 last Saturday and then lost 2-1 the following day, will visit Peterborough for two games this weekend. Oakville's other OMHA finalist, the peewee A Rangers, lost its series in three games. Oakville was eliminated with a 6-2 loss to Orillia at Glen Abbey after losing the first two contests by 3-2 and 4-2 counts. The minor atom AAA Rangers delivered Oakville its first OMHA championship of the season last weekend, claiming its tournament at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
