Vol. 50 No. 37 "Using Communication To Build Better Communities" Don't move, Dad HHS CEO highest paid in Halton By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF His salary didn't rocket up like some other healthcare CEOs during 2011, but even so Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) President and CEO John Oliver is once again Halton's highest-paid public sector official. According to what's become known as the Province of Ontario's Sunshine List, which discloses the public sector salaries for individuals making more than $100,000 a year, Oliver received $477,838.62 in salary and taxable benefits John Oliver in 2011, down slightly from the $478,207.28 he received in 2010. Chair of the HHS Board of Directors John Fleming, discussed Oliver's salary. "The board certainly has a policy around the way executive compensation is determined in Halton Healthcare. It's all about making sure we can attract and keep and motivate really good people to manage a large and growing and complex healthcare organization," said Fleming. "We work hard at making sure we understand what the compensation market is like for people in the hospital sector in Ontario and we make sure we are competitive so we can attract good talent and keep good talent to run the system." Fleming said Oliver's salary barely moved in 2011 because Halton Healthcare is abiding by a provincial statute, which freezes the salaries of Ontario healthcare service CEOs.
