Family dog perishes from smoke in Yolanda Drive fire A small dog died after a $100,000 fire broke out inside a Yolanda Drive home Friday morning. Oakville firefighters were called to the home at 10:30 a.m., after a passerby noticed smoke and called 911. "When crews first arrived they had fire venting out of a back bedroom window to the rear of the home," said Deputy Fire Chief Andy Glynn. "The crews took a hand line into the interior of the home and contained the fire to the rear bedroom. The fire did extend to another room, an adjacent bathroom, but at that point in time the fire was contained and knocked down." The fire was extinguished at around 11 a.m. Glynn said no one was home at the time, however, a search of the house discovered the deceased dog. While the fire was contained, the entire home was filled with smoke leading Glynn to believe the dog died of smoke inhalation. Damage to the home is being estimated at $100,000. The cause of the fire is unknown. The Oakville Fire Department's investigation team was called to the scene. The Oakville Fire Department is reminding residents to make sure their smoke alarms are in working order. In the event of a fire, a smoke alarm may give residents those few precious seconds they need to escape unharmed. 3 · Wednesday, March 28, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Inside Opinion............................................6 Artscene.........................................16 Sports.............................................18 Classified.......................................21 Full Delivery: Real Estate, Sport Chek, City Parent, Salvation Army, Laura Secord, JYSK, Atmosphere, Rona, Sure Lock Interlocking, National Sports, Shopping News Partial Delivery: Staples, Bouclair, Clorox, Home Depot, Ikea, XS Cargo For home delivery & customer service call (905) 845-9742 Mon., Tues. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wed., Thu., and Fri. 9 a.m.-7 p.m. (open for calls only after 5 p.m.) Closed Sat. and Sun.
