It's a Steal Furniture will also benefit charities By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF If it's not already a steal to shop there, a new consignment furniture store will make deals even more irresistible if products don't sell within 150 days. It's a Steal Furniture Consignment, located at 2530 Speers Rd., Unit 6, opened with a grand opening party last month that had visitors and shoppers filling every space of the new store. Selling furniture at an even 50/50 split between the consignor and the store, the store is full of furniture and décor items. However, if a product doesn't sell within 150 days, then, with the consignor's permission, it will be put into the store's Steal of a Deal Zone and marked down to what the store calls rock-bottom prices. The proceeds of sales from the Deal Zone will then be donated to a charity. The store is the brainchild of three businesswomen: Wendy Marlow, Kathleen Steele and Christel Wintels. "They (consignors) can make a decision if something doesn't sell," said Marlow. "They can take it back if they want or they can give it to us and we'll put it in the Steal of a Deal Zone." So far, the business has several charities it intends to work with. These include Kerr Street Ministries (KSM) and Halton Women's Place locally, as well as other places outside of Halton. "We're not always going to stick with the same charity. We really want to spread things around," Marlow said. Marlow works in the marketing industry and sees consignment as one of the emerging trends right now. That's why the three women have decided to open up a consignment furniture store. "It's so important," Marlow said of consignment. "Younger people starting out want to buy furniture for their dorm or their first apartment. Older people are downsizing or rightsizing and they want to get rid of furniture. And there's that in-between group that just wants to freshen up."
