St. Thomas Aquinas now an IB world school Oakville's St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School has been accredited as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. As such, the school will host the Halton Catholic District School Board's regional IB program, offering Grades 11 and 12 diploma programing. "St. Thomas Aquinas has undergone a rigorous two-year accreditation process to be allowed to offer the IB program," said principal Pat Daly, in a news release. "Our school has become only the 53rd IB diploma program school in Ontario, and only the 142nd in all of Canada." The school already offers pre-IB programming in Grades 9 and 10. With the accreditation, the school is now accepting limited applications to the IB program for next school year. "We are very excited to have St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary as the flagship school for the Halton Catholic District School Board in implementing this new program," said Toni Pinelli, superintendent of education, in the news release. "This is a regional program that emphasizes critical thinking and will benefit students from across Halton." Daly added, "With the addition of the IB diploma program and our new state-of-the-art facility, we are excited to continue to provide a high-quality, challenging education at St. Thomas Aquinas." The International Baccalaureate is a prestigious world-wide program that offers a rigorous and intellectually-challenging pre-university course of study. The IB program allows graduates to fulfill requirements of various national systems, while receiving both the IB Diploma and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
