Oakville Hydro will measure the town's participation The mayor said that during Earth Hour, Town staff will work to reduce energy consumption at Town facilities without compromising public safety or interfering with Town services. Some measures being undertaken include turning off lighting in facilities and parking lots, and marquee signage where possible at Town Hall, central operations, the southeast depot, the greenhouse, community centres, libraries, the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, pools and arenas. Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr said it will be a similar situation at the Region's facilities with lights and non-essential electrical equipment shut down for the hour. "At Halton Region we are committed to reducing our ecological footprint and integrating sustainable practices into our operations," said Carr. Police said public safety and police emergency response services would not be compromised or affected in any way. "As in previous years, we will once again demonstrate our commitment to Earth Hour with a focus on administrative areas where there will be no impact on our 24/7 police operations," said Deputy Chief Andrew Fletcher, Halton police. "These measures will have no effect on police patrol measures or response and public safety will not be compromised." The Halton Regional Police Services' 911 operations, communications, and district station front desks will not be affected.
