Vol. 50 No. 43 "Using Communication To Build Better Communities" Lots of help needed at new ribfest By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Who doesn't like a nice rack of messy ribs? However, to put on a neighbourhood festival, such as the upcoming, first-ever Oakville Family Ribfest this summer, it requires teams of volunteers. So when ribfest organizers, the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, held a presentation on the progress it has made so far in organizing the event, it was no wonder it called out to community members to lend them a hand. It's a big job. The event, taking place June 22-24 at Sheridan College, will require individuals to help set up, clean up, provide support during the festival, take everything down when it is all over and, perhaps the biggest need for the festival, recycle. "I can tell you this is going to take a lot of work to separate all the different waste streams," said Rotarian Cliff Thompson, one of the organizers of the event, at the presentation last Thursday (April 4). "Please get yourselves, your family, your friends involved in volunteering to make this event a success. We'll need a lot of help." The Rotary club prides itself on being able to spend 100 per cent of the money it fundraises See Ribfest page 5 nikki wesley / oakville beaver / @halton_photog saucy: Gwen Angell-Mighton, chair of the Oakville Family Ribfest volunteer committee, was victorious despite a good challenge by Ken Coulter in a messy rib-eating contest Thursday. The event took place as the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar gathered for its monthly meeting at Otello's Banquet and Conference Centre to promote Oakville's first Ribfest to be held at Sheridan College June 22-24 and to recruit volunteers.
