Halton residents petitioned about Milton hospital expansion By Christina Commisso METROLAND WEST MEDIA GROUP A petition urging Halton MPP Ted Chudleigh, who represents north Oakville, north Burlington and Milton, to vote in favour of the Liberal provincial budget and prevent another election began circulating Wednesday. "We elect people in our riding to be our voice so what we would like to see locally will happen on a bigger decision-making level. That's basically what democracy is all about," said Naidoo-Harris, noting expansion of Milton District Hospital, a site of Halton Healthcare Services, is needed. With $22.5 million in funding for Milton District Hospital (MDH) announced last week, NaidooHarris said the expansion is moving forward, but voting down the budget and forcing a provincial election could put the project in jeopardy. In an open letter released Tuesday, NaidooHarris urged residents to write or call Chudleigh and sign the petition at www.putmiltonfirst.ca. Chudleigh has responded, questioning the argument that the fate of the MDH expansion rests on the approval of the 2012 budget as the money was promised by the Minster of Health last year and said it should be "a done deal." Chudleigh said he'll vote on the budget with his constituents in mind. "I always look after the community I represent, they're my bosses." The petition will be circulated until the vote on the Ontario budget, which is expected to take place no later than April 24. Wherever the pain is, we can help!
