Halton police announced the woman had been charged Thursday following a joint investigation by the Halton Regional Police Arson Unit and Ontario Fire Marshal's Office. On the night of the fire, firefighters found the woman, an employee of a law firm located in the office building, outside the premises suffering minor burns and smoke inhalation. The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has since determined the fire was deliberately set. At the time of the blaze, officials estimated total damage to the building at $500,000. Hilary Cook, 43, has been charged with one count of arson. She will appear in a Milton court May 29.
