The Public Information Centre is scheduled for: DATE: TIME: PLACE: Thursday, May 10, 2012 6:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. Ecole Sainte - Marie (Library) 336 Maurice Drive Oakville, Ontario to deal with the Town, Oakville Hydro, Bell, Cogeco, Halton Regional Police and local businesses, to get everyone on the same page and working together," said MADY Project Co-ordinator Milan Marsic. "All overhead wiring had to be removed. The traffic signals had to be relocated, street light fixtures had to be moved. The house move itself is the easy part." Police were along the route to make sure things went smoothly. While a few trees appeared to take a hit, there was no severe damage. "Soon it will be a single family dwelling on its new site at 39 Jones St.," said architect David Eckler, who worked with the Town to create a refurbishment plan after the manse's heritage designation. Eckler said the manse is a good and representative example of an Edwardian Classicism house with the influence of the Queen Anne style. "It was purchased in the late 19th century by the Walton Memorial Church and was used as its manse for its minister. That's its historical signifiAdvertorial cance," said Eckler. "It is interesting architecturally because it has a wrap-around porch, very ornate brickwork over the windows and amazing brickwork elsewhere." Robert Koolen, who lived in the home for nearly 12 years before selling it to Amica was present to see it moved. "I have never really left. In principle, I'm still here. I'm surrounded by all the people who supported me when I founded the historical society with Walter Allan," said Koolen, as he watched his former home coming up the road. Get ready to network Oakville The outdated approach of regular face-toface networking has received a facelift, and local business professionals could not be more impressed. The Business in Oakville Networking Group (BiO) is an alternative networking group fusing social media and traditional face-to-face networking that welcomes those who do business in Oakville and those who want to communicate with local business owners. "I had always believed that regular networking was highly inefficient and could be improved," BiO and Business in Burlington creator James Burchill says. "Nobody can argue with the power of it. The problem is an awful lot of people are uncomfortable with it, so we've taken a lot of the edge off by providing social networking and social media (first)." One of the other barriers Burchill has taken out of the BiO is that it is completely free, compared to other networking organizations that charge for membership and events. The BiO is an open networking group started after the success of its neighbouring group (Business in Burlington) and follows the same simple mandates: help connect, promote and support local businesses... this time in Oakville. After having numerous successful events in Burlington, each one more so than the one before, and with the demand being too large for just one chapter, Burchill decided it was time to open a second group in Oakville. "The group really took off, actually it was a little quicker than I had expected it to," he says. "It's really quite surprised me to some degree. It's phenomenally good fun and the energy is really high and it's pulling people from all over the place. It is exciting. It is fun. It is an opportunity to relax after work and connect and talk and I do tell people `don't pitch'." The group, which will meet on the third Tuesday of each month from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., is holding its inaugural kick off is on May 15 at Milestones Restaurant in Oakville. Mayor Rob Burton will be in attendance that evening to help officially launch the group. "Milestones is graciously donating their location as the host venue and all of the other door prizes available to be won during the evening have also been donated by local businesses," Burchill explains of ways he is ensuring their will be no cost to the groups members. "Everything is donated in return for exposure."
