However, the disability and accessibility rights advocate is kicking herself for not saying more to her hero. So, Vassallo hopes people watch a little piece she filmed after the live taping. In 2002, Vassallo was in a near-fatal car crash, altering her life forever. Since her lengthy recovery, Vassallo has become an advocate for disability and accessibility rights and just last year was a medal bearer at the 25th anniversary of Rick Hansen's original Man in Motion World Tour when the relay stopped in Oakville. Vassallo also won the access award at the 2010 Oakville Community Spirit Awards. A decade after the crash, Vassallo's dream came true when she met Oprah.
