www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, May 16, 2012 · 4 Ward 4 Halton District School Board Trustee Kathryn Bateman-Olmstead has been taken to court over alleged inconsistencies in her 2010 municipal election expenses and contributions report. Oakville resident Wendy Gunn wants a compliance audit, arguing contributions made to Bateman-Olmstead's campaign haven't been recorded and the true expenses incurred through the purchase of election signs and creation of a campaign website are absent from official records. Gunn has also alleged Bateman-Olmstead's campaign website was set up and asking for donations before she registered as a candidate. None of these allegations have been proven in court. Trustee challenged in court Former coach faces charges Both parties were in Milton court Monday, at which time both sides presented their cases. During the hearing, Bateman-Olmstead's lawyer, Raivo Uukkivi, called Gunn's application for a compliance audit `a fishing expedition' based on suspicion and not fact. He also said the activation of the campaign website was an accident and that Bateman-Olmstead shut it down as soon as she was told to do so by Town Clerk Cathy Best. Uukkivi said Gunn's application has not reached the threshold where it can be reasonably believed something in Bateman-Olmstead's election finances is out of place and therefore a compliance audit is warranted. Justice R. J. LeDressay will decide whether to call for a compliance audit by June 29.
